Album: Grønland July 03In the summer of July 2003, we decided to undertake a somewhat 'different' summer vacation - Greenland. Not the popular seaway with a cruise liner, but on foot with nothing but hiking shoes, back packs, astronaut food, a tent, a map and a GPS... oh, and mosquito repellant! The route, which we had to change due to bad weather conditions, was from the south coast of Jakobshavn Fjord (Disco Bay, just south of Ilulissat)to the ice cap and back to the west coast at Qasigiannguit) and took us 10 days effectively with a daily km-average of 12-15 km. This was the remotest place we'd ever seen. For 7 days we didn't see a single human being, even animals were sparse. Just a few birds - and mosquitos. Amazing that places like this still exist. Besides from our 10-day-trek, we also spent some time in beautiful Ilulissat (Jakobshavn) at breath-taking Jakobshavn Isfjord, and in Aasiaat (Egedesminde), a.o. whalewatching.
